    First-party tag delivery

    Classic sGTM moves event delivery server-side, but the tag script still loads from googletagmanager.com, a third-party request blocked before any event exists. Tag Gateway serves the tag from your domain.

    Same-origin serving, not a tracking subdomain

    Browsers increasingly treat tracking subdomains like CNAME cloaking: capped cookie lifetimes, blocklist fingerprinting, CORS friction. The recommended same-origin path (yourdomain.com/metrics) is not separable from the site, and enables longer-lived server-managed cookies in same-origin sGTM deployments.

    Deployment without re-tagging

    Integrated CDN enablement is a few clicks with no code changes; manual CDN and sGTM routes exist for other stacks.

    Confidential computing by default

    Tag data is encrypted in the browser and processed in a Trusted Execution Environment; advertisers can verify handling through attestation. IP redaction before data reaches Google is available.

    What it does not do

    Google-only; no payload transformation, no event logic, no non-Google destinations. Meta, TikTok, and Snap delivery, enrichment, and consent-gated routing remain server-side tagging and CAPI jobs.

    Is Google Tag Gateway the same as server-side tagging?

    No. Tag Gateway changes where the Google tag is served from, first-party at the network layer. Server-side tagging processes events on a server you control and routes them to any platform. Different problems, commonly deployed together.

    Do we need sGTM to use it?

    No. On an integrated CDN, Tag Gateway enables in a few clicks with no re-tagging. If you already run sGTM, we enable it there, same-origin where possible.

    Does it bypass consent choices?

    No. Consent Mode continues to govern tag behavior. Basic Consent Mode setups on one-click CDN should add Google's Data Transmission Controls; Advanced Consent Mode needs no extra configuration.

    We already use Stape, or Addingwell, or Taggrs. Is it redundant?

    No. Those host your sGTM container; Tag Gateway governs how the Google tag reaches the browser, and works alongside a hosted container.

    What does it cost?

    Tag Gateway is a free Google feature; the only costs are your existing CDN or sGTM infrastructure. Conversion uplift does not increase CDN cost.

    Does it help Meta or TikTok tracking?
