A customer data platform collects, unifies, and stores customer data from many systems into persistent profiles that other tools can use. It is a system of record: its job is to resolve identities, merge events and attributes, and hold a clean, queryable view of each customer. Activation is a different job. A CDP assembles the profile; it does not, on its own, deliver that profile hashed and consented into each ad platform through the partner-verified interfaces those platforms require. This is why many teams own a capable CDP and still see low match rates: storage and activation are separate problems, and the last mile into Meta, Google, TikTok, and Snap is where signal is usually lost. Activation platforms like Datahash sit downstream of the CDP as the delivery layer, taking unified profiles and moving them into each destination correctly, deduplicated and consent-aware. A CDP and an activation layer are complementary; each does the job the other does not.
Why it matters
Many teams own a CDP and still have low match rates, because storage and activation are different jobs. A destination catalog that treats ad platforms as one more webhook does not produce the hashed identifiers, dedupe, and consent flags each platform’s interface expects.
